Submissions are accepted at MicDropMedia.me – the deadline to submit is two weeks before the event. It’s not a contest, so there are no entry fees or judges, it’s a curated showcase of 10-11 artists with a host. Each artist performs 2 original songs and can have any number of accompanying musicians they want. The Spazmaticsw/ Special Guests142 Pacific Coast Hwy,Hermosa Beach, CA 9025421+ OnlyAbout the ArtistThe Spazmatics were born in the spring of 1983 when physics professor Kevin Stigwood of Alta Dena High in Thousand Oaks California, lost a debate over String Theory to an upstart pupil in front of the entire student body and faculty. As agreed to by both parties, the loser would have to do anything that the winner demanded, and the victorious prodigy demanded that Mr. Stigwood perform “She Blinded Me With Science” by Thomas Dolby during half-time at an upcoming state basketball championship game. Having no musical background and desperate to not go down in total humiliation, Professor Stigwood formed The Spazmatics by tapping the genius of electronics teacher Sydney Balderman (AKA “Syd Sonic”), who had achieved international acclaim in 1981 for his invention of “robot drums.” When Balderman (who was also the girls water polo coach at Alta Dena Middle School) explained that most of the music could be generated by computers, and that all he needed was a couple of decent musicians to complete The Spazmatics, Stigwood was ecstatic. To make The Spazmatics complete, Stigwood brought in his special needs brother Curtis on bass, and teacher’s assistant Rusty A. Woosmeir (AKA “The Raw”) on guitar.When The Spazmatics took center court that evening, members of the hip elite began heckling them with jibes of “geek” and “nerd,” while everyone else howled with laughter. But once they broke into the opening salvo of “Science,” the nonbelievers were stunned by the group’s authenticity of production, world class musicianship, and tight choreography. The Spazmatics performance came to a climax when Stigwood grabbed one of the cheerleaders and began doing the “Belinda” up and down the court with her in tow. Joker’s Hand EP Release Partyw/ Carry The Day & Xtine and the Reckless Hearts142 Pacific Coast Hwy,Hermosa Beach, CA 9025421+ OnlyAbout the Artist Formed in 2017 by Kevin Kawano and Matt Lau, Joker’s Hand has catapulted themselves above the noise floor of the Los Angeles music scene with their explosive live performances. Kawano and Lau, both first generation Asian Americans, seamlessly fuse together punk, alternative and hip hop to create a fresh sound that reaches across the generational divide. Joker’s Hand released their self-titled EP in March, 2020. Their first single “Gold Rush” landed them #1 on KROQ’s Locals Only for nine weeks. While the pandemic put a wrinkle in the bands touring plans, they went back into the studio with producer Steve Ornest and turned out their second EP “All-American Rage”. “War Profiteer”, an upbeat track with a dark message about those who profit from war, spent several weeks on the charts. As the world reopened its stages, Joker’s Hand toured nationally and shared the stage with artists such as Cage the Elephant, Jane’s Addiction, The Aquadolls, Sitting on Stacey, Jakob Nowell, and many others. Their showcase performance at SXSW in 2022 was a turning point, as the band was signed to Wiretap Records by Rob Castellon.
