The Wade Preston Band
Rock & Roll

In 1984 Wade Preston landed in Los Angeles and was working steadily as a solo artist, playing his ‘”maniacal boogie” piano style to enthusiastic crowds that filled clubs to capacity. His reputation as a virtuoso spread, and the word was out about this amazing keyboardist in coastal venues from Santa Barbara to San Diego.

The Wade Preston Band formed after meeting drummer/percussionist Christo Pellani. He and Wade shared a mutual love for deep roots, New Orleans, second-line style of music, and Christo was well seasoned in the genres of rock, R&B, world, and prog fusion. Christo was playing with a popular pop/reggae band called Planet 10, along with bassist/Chapman stick artist Clifford Rehrig. The WPB was formed when Cliff joined, bringing his unique funk, world, jazz, and R&B stylings into the mix.

Blending the New Orleans Mardi Gras style of music with Wade’s repertoire of boogie piano rockabilly, the band’s high powered shows quickly became very popular. They further diversified their repertoire with classic rock as well as a number of original songs, making the WPB one of the most eclectic bands in the region. In 1995, the WPB recorded and released the critically acclaimed CD “No Present Like The Time.”

Cliff then went on tour with Air Supply, who Wade and Christo both joined for brief stints. Bass virtuoso John Meadows, well versed in the eclectic styles of the band, replaced Cliff. After 10 years together, the band dissolved in 2000 as everyone went on to various other musical pursuits.

Wade left the South Bay in 2002 to play Billy Joel on Broadway in the production of Movin’ Out. After a three and a half year run on Broadway he toured with the show nationally for the next several years. Now, based out of his home in North Eastern Pennsylvania, he performs concerts all over the country, both solo and with The Movin’ Out Band, comprised of alumni from the Broadway production.

Recently, Christo was inspired to contact Wade and John after reviewing various video and audio recordings of their energetic and moving performances from the early 90s. All three expressed interest in a reunion and shows were then planned. It’s been 18 years in the making and they’re BACK to rock the house as only the WPB can!
