This storied NOLA hip-hop/jazz/funk collective are Grammy-nominated, spotlighted in Spike Lee's award winning documentary, "When the Levees Broke," and were also the featured subject of "The Hot 8" documentary. In December 2015, they released a remix compilation album of their viral hit cover of Marvin Gaye's iconic "Sexual Healing" and in May 2016, released their "Can't Nobody Get Down" EP. Hot 8 are planning a 2017 world tour in conjunction with a new full-length album release in Q1 of 2017.
Rat Soup
Rat Soup
Rat Soup is an original funk soul band throwing it down in Southern California. Based in Long Beach, Rat Soup ensures heavy grooves, swinging beats and deep funk are always part of the mix. Individually they are an eclectic group of ingredients. But once mixed, simmered, and stewed together, they create the savory tasty concoction known as Rat Soup.

Ever since I can remember I was singing, making noise and banging on things. At 12 I begged my mom to buy me the used drum kit for sale up the street from my childhood home in Oakland, CA. She said “No”, as any sane single mother would, offering instead to buy me a guitar if I took lessons. At 14 I was part of my first, short-lived, band “The Stairs”. A year later we became “The Rage”, performing across the bay area and even playing some sold out shows.

In college I was one of the founding members of “The Fire Department”. After winning UCSB’s annual battle of the bands we were given the opportunity to open for Snoop Dogg, Iration, and Wolfgang Gartner, at UCSB’s Extravaganza festival. After playing across California at “Earth Day” Santa Barbara, Art and Soul in Oakland, The CA beer festival circuit, and various venues, I decided to embark on writing and recording a record of my original material.

I moved to Los Angeles and began to call various friends of mine, who were awesome people and amazing musicians, each with a unique and individual voice. We have had a blast recording our debut record at Studio 637 in Hermosa Beach, CA, working with their talented crew, and mixing engineers Nick Rives and Dave Aron. Following the release of our debut single “Take a Chance” on Jan.11th 2016, we will be announcing tour dates, and future releases.
